Abstract
This course focuses on the rights, responsibilities, and obligations of practicing human service and health professionals as it relates to legal, moral, and ethical actions in the rapidly changing health care environment. Codes of Ethics for individual health service and healthcare disciplines are used as guides to examine implications for legal and ethical decision-making. Students will explore ethical theories and principles and analyze how personal, professional, and societal values affect their approach to health care and are reflected in professional codes of ethics. This discussion-focused course investigates theories of ethical decision making to address increasingly difficult situations that are often encountered by professionals in human services and healthcare fields.
