Abstract
Teaching students with disabilities mathematics can be challenging for both students and
teachers. When students’ confidence depletes because of lack of success and failing grades,
instruction can become even more challenging. Scaffolding is one strategy to support the
learning of mathematics. This curriculum was designed to integrate scaffolding into Pythagorean
Theorem instruction and help students with disabilities better understand important concepts
around this theorem. This curriculum includes four lessons:
● Lesson 1-Right Triangles and Their Sides
● Lesson 2-Using the Pythagorean Theorem to Find Missing Side Lengths
● Lesson 3-Pythagorean Triples
● Lesson 4- Numbers and Simplifying Radicals
Student ready materials are included with supports designed for teachers. All keys are included
in the appendix.
