Abstract
This work attempts to explain the shortcomings of the United Nations Peacekeeping operations through history, with a specific focus on the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s. Many misconceptions have arisen from analysis of the conflict that are addressed in the paper. The research into the Rules of Engagement, historical differences, and the mechanisms of the United Nations draft a story showing severe miscalculations and missteps that lead to a failure to prevent some of the most disastrous genocides since the Second World War. Observers on the ground's testimonies to the events clearly define the need for United Nation's actions that never came to be.
