Abstract
This course is a study of the growth of the United States from exploration and colonization period to independence. The mythology of the colonial era will be deconstructed with emphasis on the roles of Native-Americans, Women, African- Americans & other marginalized groups in the formation of the US nation. The individual cultures and politics of each of the original 13 English colonies will be examined in order to understand the difficulties in nation formation. Special emphasis will be given to the Revolutionary struggle and Constitutional comprises that produced this nation.
