Description
Recent surveys in the upper Sesquehanna river drainage suggest that Elliptio complanata is facing widespread recruitment failure. It is hypothesized that dams have cut off historic migration routes of american Eel (Anguilla rostrata) as primary hosts of E. complanata (Lellis et al. 2013). To ensure that recruitment failure is not due to other parts of the reproductive process, we examined the timing of embryo development, brooding, and glochidia drift.
