Abstract
What are the factors that allow heroin into the public schools of small towns? Is there a disconnect between young people and the teaching practices of the local school systems, in regards to drug education? Is there simply an influx of drugs within these small towns, or does social media bring the drug issue to light more than it did in the past? This study is vital to my community as well as communities throughout the U.S because people seem to be neglecting the publicity that is shown through various media spheres. If local government and public school systems choose to neglect the issue of heroin, in their town it will go unnoticed because the average person will not be aware of potential epidemic that the town is facing. I interviewed several people within my own community that have dealt with this issue first hand. It is important to realize that the United States is far too familiar with the use of drugs in the country's life span. Opioids are different. There is no set group of people that are more likely to use. There is no real comparison to past drug epidemics. Opioids is its own monster that must be tackled in a unique way.
