Abstract
This curriculum project was developed with an emphasis on student discourse and student-centered instruction driven by group work and discussion focused on geometric rigid motions. By pairing teacher direct instruction with opportunities for students to discuss mathematics through structured group and whole class investigation, the lessons in this curriculum project provide a unique way for students to study Geometry. Students are challenged to collaborate to develop and deepen their understanding of math while building communication skills with detailed teacher support. Each subsequent lesson provides guided notes and an interactive, student driven activity that challenges them to explore the ideas of transformations including translations, rotations, reflections, and dilations. These lessons are designed to align with NYS Next Generation Mathematics standards for Grade 8. A key to each lesson and student activity can be found in the appendix at the end of the project.
