Description
At SUNY Cobleskill we are developing a freshwater mussel propagation facility. We are testing infrastructure and trying to maximize production by using common mussel species. Giant floaters have been documented using 26 different host fish species (Strayer and Jirka 1998). However, it is not clear which host fish species are preferred by giant floaters. We were interested in determining if pumpkin seed or yellow perch produce more juveniles along with the fish density that would optimize production.
