Abstract
The goal of this research paper was to understand the role that video games play in the
lives of the youth in this country, and across the world. Many factors can influence whether
video games end up positive or negative for children, especially when accompanied by the
influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Setting out to show the ways that video games can
provide positive benefits to the health, well-being, and development of children and adolescents,
was the primary focus. Many areas of research were considered, some of which involved mental
health afflictions, video games in moderation and in over-consumption, how parents being
involved had an influence, and with speaking to a youth professional about the matter. Through
analysis of the research found, there are many links that show video games, when used properly
and under guidance of parents, can be a resource that should be utilized in households with
children. Video games have been seen as negative, in the past, but developing research shows the
very real and possible benefits to them.
