Abstract
Cannabis is a complex plant, with psychoactive components and non-psychoactive components with promising biomedical efficacy. Cannabis presents unique physiochemical properties that influence the pharmacology of this natural product with implications for legal, social and commercial challenges. In this course, students will learn about the chemical compounds of interest in the cannabis plant. This course will provide a basic understanding of the biochemistry and pharmacology of cannabis. Biochemical pathways, methods of extraction, and criteria for feedstock will be reviewed. Regulations pertaining to processing and manufacturing will be discussed. Students will be able to apply this knowledge towards processing and manufacturing techniques used in the cannabis industry to produce safe products that meet regulatory standards.
