Abstract
In investigating the literary text Tales of the Elders of Ireland, "mythology" as a catch all description for fantastical tales from a older time is called into question provoking a literary and intellectual history focused on various theories of mythology. This investigation of theories spanning from Friedrich Schelling to Rolland Barthes follows the psychic characteristic of mythology. This investigation is then followed by using what was examined to understand the prosimetric frame story narrative that is the Tales of the Elder of Ireland.
