Abstract
"The Haunting of Campbell House" was written by Jenna Hernandez, with music composed by Andrew Alford. It was THP's first student-written fully produced musical, with collaboration from majors across the SUNY Purchase campus and their love of musicals. This musical theatre was performed for four different audiences, who left impressed and giddy after watching, due to the alluring and therapeutic effect of music in theatrical performance. This, along with lots of passion and patience, resulted in a lovely outcome and a happy audience. The account of the performance was supported by a research essay investigating the connection between performer and audience (synergy) mediated by music. Social aspects include the role of music in therapy and general mental health, and the effect of music on the brain. The research also includes an interview with Hernandez and Alford. Documentation of the production, a journal of the process, and an account of what dramatic preparation techniques were used are also included.
