Abstract
Stereotyped and homogenized as a group undeveloped in autonomous and feminist thought, Muslimah have carved out a space for themselves in the U.S. by embracing modest fashion as a sub genre of western trends. This has allowed for them to move deeper into an accepted status while continuing to identify with their religion and their own form of feminism. This research delves into the soundness of religious-based feminism and contemporary notions of womanhood. Through a strategic engagement with the western fashion world, an industry enabled by modern capitalism, Muslimah are able to remain pious but also gain opportunity and understanding in post-9/11 America. This research highlights the value commodification has in the route to inclusion, all the while questioning secular constructs of citizenship and belonging in the United States.
