Abstract
This paper studies the economic and policy implications of the European Union and surrounding countries from policy, specifically the European Green Deal. With a data set including emissions, expenditures, tax revenue, population, and inequality measures, this study aims to further understand what can be used to explain emission levels. Results indicate that energy tax revenue is positively correlated to lower household emissions, higher GDP per capita is linked with higher emissions. Energy tax is positively correlated with total emissions highlighting the effects of other sectors on the environment in the EU such as manufacturing and transportation. Gini coefficient was not statistically significant, indicating the nuances of quantifying emission reduction targets among many countries within an economic union.
