Abstract
The second part of a one-year writing sequence, emphasizing the creation of clear, thoughtful
prose and in-depth critical reading of multi-genre fiction. Focus is on analysis and interpretation
of the content, style, and structure of imaginative texts through varied literary forms of short
fiction, poetry, novels, and drama. At least three to five formal essays are required, including
close reading, literary analysis, and scholarly critique. One is a documented essay, at least five to
seven typed pages, which students must pass in order to pass the course.
