Abstract
This senior project examines the history of the "lost" short-line railroad, The New York, Westchester & Boston Railway. It served the New York metropolitan region for almost three decades, connecting Westchester County with New York City. In its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s, it was affordable and luxurious for the time. Yet the railroad never made a profit and eventually collapsed. No amount of commuter loyalty could resurrect the fallen line. Today, the Westchester line remnants, including stations and property, have been repurposed in a variety of ways that many local residents do not even realize, such as becoming parks, roads and historic landmarks.
