Abstract
My project explores the past and present of Hispanic/Latinx representation in the arts and entertainment industry, in both artists and producers. 20% of the United States population identifies as Hispanic/Latinx, and 26% of frequent moviegoers identify as Hispanic/Latinx, making this need for change in Hollywood representation not only for moral reasons, but also marketing and economic. Corporate and independent artistry is explored, as well as representation efforts across our own Purchase College campus. Topics explored include celebrity culture, casting, corporations, marketing, and merchandising. This project is an analysis, celebration of accomplishments, and a call to action, as there is still a great deal of work to be done in bettering Hispanic/Latinx representation across all mediums in the arts and entertainment industry.
