Abstract
How is mathematics relevant to the game of American football in the modern era? As a part of answering this question, my efforts have involved examining the many ways the National Football League has developed additional uses of mathematics with the enforcement of new rule changes and the evolution of new rules with numeric parameters. Additional methods used to aid in answering this research question include dissecting case studies and discussing specific examples extracted from game history from a mathematical perspective. The background discussion presented here along with the rule content enforcement and game strategy examples to show the increased use of mathematics in multiple aspects of the game.
