Abstract
The Tree's Demand is an interactive installation that gives the tree a voice observing the extensive arc of human interaction with nature. Through a sequence of thirty originally written poems hung from the tree's branches on leaf-shaped paper, the tree speaks directly to the viewer, documenting the misuse of forests and begging for restoration and appreciation. The installation starts off introducing a symbolic axe that is fixed into the ground right in front of the tree. The axe is a moral choice to the viewer: to cherish or chop the tree. Settled among the branches are fake birds in nests. The birds' act as reminders to viewers of the several nonhuman lives that trees shelter. This installation depicts the notion of nature-friendly preservation, humanism, and environmental destruction. These are all perceived through the lens of poetic storytelling and interactive art. It is a request for recognition and accountability in a time of climate emergency.
