Abstract
My senior project is a joint project including the majors of Journalism and American History. The paper explores how the presence of Cameras and media coverage effected major U.S. events such as the Vietnam War or Watergate. It also discusses how the work done by media reporters helped push forwards social movement, most notably the Women's and Civil rights movements. Media coverage and broadcast news became a platform for reformers to voice their opinions. Finally the paper also discusses the coverage of major political battles such as Presidential elections and how during each election in the 1960s brought about a new aspect of broadcast journalism. This included the first live presidential debates, media biased and candidates being able to use the media to help their campaign.
