Soundscapes In Animation

This senior project analyzes soundscapes in animation, using four different media: A studio Ghibli anime film, an animated Israeli Documentary, a cartoon network television series and a video game. Soundscape improves our understanding of the deeper meaning of the animated media. It allows us to understand the narrative on several levels. It is not simply to enhance emotion, but also to enhance the viewer's comprehension and understand the filmmaker's intent. In applying Michel Chion's theories to these examples, the viewer can get a clearer understanding of how sound is actually used. His theories help provide a framework for the unique relationship between image and sound.
