Abstract
This paper analyzes The Eye of the Canary (2010), a Cuban film directed by Fernando Pérez Valdés, which portrays the childhood and adolescence of Cuba's national hero, José Julián Martí Pérez. Through a cinematic lens, I will delve into how the director's audiovisual techniques, such as melancholic aesthetics and intertextual references to Martí's writings, create a nuanced view of Martí's early life.
