Abstract
Spelling is a skill that students need throughout their lives. The present study examined the effect of Class Wide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) to improve spelling test scores for 5th grade students in an inclusion classroom. The participants included 19 (10 male, 9 female) students enrolled in a 5th grade inclusion classroom in a small rural elementary school in Western New York. The school contains approximately 263 students enrolled in grades 3-5. All 5th grade students were Caucasian; 3 have Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and 2 students have a 504 Plan. CWPT produced a significant improvement in spelling test scores. Teachers and students rated the intervention very positively and suggested that it should be used more frequently in school.
