Abstract
I am from the Bronx. My family is from the Bronx. I have lived in the Bronx for most of my life. Through my lens, this work focuses on capturing the beauty, confidence, and resilience of people in this vibrant urban community, particularly in the lively streetscapes of the Bronx. This project exhibits the beauty along with the parts of the Bronx that are not typically beautiful; graffiti… brick facades… and littered and polluted streets… By juxtaposing and revealing the tension between what is beautiful with what is imperfect, as well as the use of light as an element, this will assist the viewer in connecting to the subject. This work is a focused extension of the overall vision, connecting to modern urban portraiture, specializing in street photography. In addition to portraiture, I am drawn to the world of car racing. The energy of this sport is palpable, and capturing these moments make it so thrilling. In the Bronx, car racing is not just a sport but a way of life, and it is a privilege to document this passion and dedication, capturing the essence of their personality and emotions. Overall, my goal as a photographer is to create images that inspire and empower. By showcasing the strength and beauty of the people and places around me, through this work, I hope to encourage others to see my hometown in a more positive and compassionate light as the STREETS, the FACES, the RACES - all come together to create a new understanding of true beauty.
