Abstract
Studies have explored memes and the way they interact with the real world, however, few clearly analyze how gendered stereotypes are further perpetuated by memes. This study not only focuses on gendered stereotypes, but specifically, how they are presented in the dynamic of a romantic relationship. My study aims to answer several questions. (1) How are gendered stereotypes of romantic relationships portrayed in meme culture? (2) Are the stereotypes portrayed in a negative or positive light? (3) Who is the target audience and do different accounts appeal to specific groups of people? In conducting a content analysis of 200 memes, this research examines meme culture and how these stereotypes are presented.
