Abstract
This research examines the legal process to desegregation in the United States throughout history. The focus is on the principles established during reconstruction and how they had a lasting impact on segregating public schools across the nation. The court cases leading up the landmark decision of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka are also explored and broken down. The history behind the cases is then compared to the resurfacing issue of segregation in public schools following the Civil Rights movement with a primary focus on the City of Rochester and the surrounding suburbs. Following the reading their is also a link to a website that promotes desegregation of public schools in Rochester, New York.
