Abstract
The paper discusses social engagement through visual art and its importance in society. More and more schools and communities have been using creative activities as a form of social engagement  as well as a tool to effectively spread awareness of social issues such as poverty, climate change and injustice. Art educators, curators and artists have been doing collaborative efforts initiating these activities. Not to mention more appearances of social themed exhibits showcasing art reflecting social issues. Among topics discussed are art education, social engagement, social themed art exhibits and the history behind social and political themed visual art. The paper also shares views from experts in these topics. There also have been activities and other forms of social engagement initiated in schools and communities that the paper explores.
