Abstract
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to scan through straightforward, factual texts in magazines, brochures or on the web, identify what they are about and decide whether they contain information that might be of practical use. Students will be able to scan longer texts in order to locate desired information, and gather information from different parts of a text, or from different texts in order to fulfil a specific task. Students will be able to assess whether an article, report or review is on the required topic. Students will be able to give straightforward, detailed descriptions on a range of familiar subjects within their field of interest. Students will be able to produce very brief reports in a standard conventionalized format, which pass on routine factual information and state reasons for actions.
