Abstract
Abstract
The following paper examines the prevalence of suicide within Native American communities, and the correlation to drugs and alcohol. Comprehensive surveys and studies conducted by regional and federal agencies are used to present statistical information that encompasses multiple age groups and genders. Contemporary issues such as educational inadequacy and resource exploitation are presented, and referenced, as perpetually contributing factors. And to provide an inherent understanding of what is generally considered (by many people and agencies) a multi-generational epidemic, an historical perspective is used to frame the social, racial, and economic factors.
