Abstract
This curriculum project was designed to support teachers in the integration of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) way of thinking into the Common Core Algebra Curriculum. The specific content involves arithmetic sequences and the UDL principles align with multiple means of action and expression. It was created by a mathematics teacher who has substantial experience supporting special education students in the mathematics classroom. UDL can play a critical role in students’ learning and understanding of mathematical content. The diversity of learners in the mathematics classroom calls for removing barriers to learning and providing equal opportunities for all students’ success. This is the power behind the integration of the UDL way of thinking. This curriculum project includes lessons introducing sequences that would be taught at the end of a linear functions unit in Algebra 1. All lessons feature aspects which are consistent with UDL guidelines.
