Abstract
Facing Food Allergies (FFA) is an online initiative to create more awareness about the severity of food allergies. There is a lot of misunderstandings about food allergies present in society which lead to people not taking it seriously, when it is in fact a potentially life threatening medical condition. FFA amplifies the voices of the food allergy community by sharing their stories on the FFA blog, and by creating accessible information online through the FFA website and instagram account. The media often perpetuates misinformation about food allergies by using it as a comedic device. FFA is combatting the stigma by humanizing food allergies through telling people's real life experiences with food allergies. Normalizing allergies and sharing life saving information not only educates people, but it empowers those who suffer from food allergies.
