Abstract
The Story of John Henry is depicted in a quilt, made to be stylistically similar to the Bayeux Tapestry of England. The medium of quilting is exemplary of 19th century Americana, and the story of John Henry represents the politics and culture of a post-Civil War industrialized America. The history and the craft have been combined to create a contemporary visual spin on this well-known legend.
