Abstract
This project was created to help teachers understand how to support students’ learning of trigonometric functions so they can succeed in both precalculus and future math courses. It provides an in-depth look at using hands-on learning to connect students’ understanding of right-triangle trigonometry in geometry to period function modeling in precalculus. The lessons include an introduction to the unit circle, writing equations for sine and cosine functions, and sine and cosine function transformations. The lessons are aligned to the College Board AP Precalculus standards but can be used in any mathematics class to teach sine and cosine functions. Answer keys for all lessons are included in the appendix.
