Abstract
This study reviews the various effects of domestic violence and intimate partner violence on children. I am looking at the cycle of domestic abuse, particularly the way it is passed down by generations. What is it that subjects a child to resilience versus following their family’s abusive tendencies? Then, to address the problem by looking at possible preventative measures that can be and have been taken.
Since this is a worldwide problem I have looked at various countries to assess the issues. I looked at studies and interviewed adults who were children of parents in domestic violence relationships. Some of my readings have provided studies that last between 5-10 years adding to the research for this study.
Although my study is small due to limitations, all the research and studies show very similar results. The studies provethat if there is a cycle of abuse unless, children are taught healthy ways of expressing themselves outside the home, as they grow up, they will be abusers or become a victim of abuse.
