Abstract
This paper interrogates the development of hasbara and analyzes how it creates an artificial us vs. them dichotomy. The intricacies of how hasbara has been sold to American audiences will be elaborated on as well. In order to function in the United States, hasbara has to appeal both to Jewish and non-Jewish Zionists, as well as to a general sense of shared "Western" values between the United States and Israel. Furthermore, this paper focuses on how the connection of Palestinians to their ancestral land is routinely undermined through the designation of Palestinians as a dehumanized racial other that poses an alleged existential threat to "Western civilization."
