Abstract
This study focuses on the factors that contribute to a youth in foster care transitioning into adulthood. Studies have shown that 23,000 youth age out of foster care in the U.S everyday. In New York alone, 1,200 young people age out and leave the foster care system, sometimes not leaving with a numerous amount of resources that will benefit them after the transition.
The study found that there is still need to support youth aging out of the foster care system, such as mental health resources, financial stability and positive relationships to aid their transition. These factors are often not talked about and need more awareness to inform services and programs aimed to increase support as they age out of the foster care system. These findings were able to relate back to the studies previously done that explore the relationships of resources given to the young people in foster care and how they affect a young person transitioning from foster care to adulthood.
