Abstract
Background: Our modern society needs to understand the importance of females in the police force and that they can work in any male-dominated field they want. They have been pushing for the same rights as men since the 1800s. However, this occupation has become disproportionate to the number of females given this job opportunity.
Objective: This study aims to research mindfulness and opportunity for females in hopes they could benefit from these male-dominated jobs. Also, to help females understand the importance they play in male-dominated industries and how they are capable just as much as men are.
Design and Method: The research method is based on peer-reviewed literature consisting of scholarly articles, journals, news articles, blogs, and online articles. The research performed is qualitative and includes literature from 2007 to 2021. Females in the police force were studied to evaluate their similarities and differences with males and how they are discriminated against, as reported in the results section. The research question is: In what ways does gender discrimination and negative workplace experience impede the promotion of females in the police force?
Results: The significance of this study is that female officers can produce various benefits for the police force, both physically and mentally.
Conclusions: Females are viewed differently in society, but their outcomes are often not good enough to be put out there to show people females can do the same thing that men do.
Female police officers are discriminated against because of their gender, and being part of a male-dominated field can be very competitive for the males who do not want females to do their job. However, this study concludes that females are necessary for many job occupations, including the police force, and produce many of the same results as men have, sometimes even better than them.
