Abstract
Ya Baladi is a Theatre & Performance Senior Thesis exploring the effects of colonialism on the communities and people that have been affected by it, as well as how that translated in the realm of the arts. This project takes a focus on Morocco and North Africa, while also acknowledging that the issue spans on a more global scale. Originally intended to be a staged piece of devised performance, it still keeps its goal in mind and aims to express the experiences of colonialism and stories shared with the author through devising which can be seen in the director's notebook. The work was supported by research into the concept of colonialism, especially in North Africa. As well as the ways in which art was affected during the colonial era and beyond.
