Abstract
This collection of photographs is a reflection of my family's journey, Ukrainian immigrants who built their lives in a new country while holding onto the traditions and memories of home. Within the warmth of these spaces, there is history embedded in every wrinkle, every archival photograph, every gesture of care. Growing up with these traditions, I've come to appreciate the tenderness that defines my heritage. Light filters through windows onto worn furniture, shelves lined with keepsakes, and faces that hold stories I am still learning. This series is a quiet attempt to hold onto something slipping through my fingers. My family's world, warm apartments, worn photographs, voices layered in memory. Feels both close and distant. A photograph makes a promise, that something of this moment will remain. There's a weight to a physical print. I find myself drawn to that feeling, to the way an image can pull me back, not just to what was seen but to everything that surrounded it – the air, the voices, the presence of energy that made it whole. My grandparents' homes have not changed over the decades, the same familiar rooms, the same carefully kept belongings. It is time that lingers differently now. I think about the afternoons I didn't spend here, the conversations I assumed there would always be time for. In all that feels uncertain, there are still moments of closeness, unspoken understandings, small comforts, the familiar warmth.
