Abstract
This study examined the impact of a child’s low socioeconomic status on their academic achievement. A series of peer reviewed journals and case studies were reviewed, annotated and coded to look for significant, often fixed, factors along with socioeconomic status that not only negatively impact a child’s academic achievement, but also factors that are transformable and positively benefit children of low socioeconomic status. The findings largely supported that placing a child in structured childcare followed by a charter school, along with a positive outlook on education by the child’s parents, will increase the child’s likelihood of becoming a high academic achiever.
