Abstract
In this paper, I will explore the healing power of visual art, specifically as it relates to my grandfather, Kunio Izuka, a painter. Although he did not receive formal art therapy, his artistic process reveals his catharsis, ultimately reflecting certain aspects of art therapy, particularly as it relates to the nurturing of self-esteem, self-awareness, and emotional resiliency.
