Abstract
The rapid expansion of smart technology has not been without issue. An unprecedented phenomenon of patterns of dependence and distress concerning smart technologies has led to a rise in research into problematic smartphone misuse. Misuse of technology is defined as frequent obsessive technology use continued despite negative consequences. Adolescents are at the greatest risk of addictive behaviors which has proven true in problematic smartphone use as they are the demographic with the highest reporting of screen-time, phone checks, and reporting of symptoms related to their technology. The widespread misuse that has been plaguing adolescents in recent years. To examine this phenomenon, I utilize the vast research that has been produced. The research is analyzed features both quantitative and qualitative data. The theory of technological momentum will be used in the paper to provide a theoretical basis for the phenomenon. The theory of technological momentum predicts the course of the rapid progression of technology and its social implications.
