Abstract
K-pop, the abbreviation of Korean pop, is a genre of music developed in South Korea. In the past few years, it has established itself as a transnational phenomenon, piquing the interest of fans internationally. Despite the language barrier, fans in America and across the world have dedicated themselves to the genre and have played a key role in establishing K-pop's place in the mainstream. This article is an exploration of what makes K-pop so beloved in the eyes of international fans, whether the American music industry is ready to open its doors to Asian artists, and how this plays a part in the spread of Korean culture.
