Abstract
A massive amount of factors contribute to the success or failure of militaries and nations alike. By using the Allied invasion of Normandy during the Second World War, Operation Overlord, as a case study, this fact is plainly revealed. Broken down into four categories: Grand Strategic, Strategic, Operational, and Tactical planning, the integral link between the government body and the military is plainly displayed. Each serves a unique but very necessary function which ensure the success of the others. For those who acknowledge this fact and take steps to address each level of the planning hierarchy, success is almost guaranteed, while those who remain ignorant of its principles will inevitably fall short.
