Abstract
A brief look at the way in which popular media has influenced and shaped female identity and gender roles, starting from the 1950s to Modern day. I propose that the usage of elements of camp such as parody, mimicry and the re appropriation of popular portrayals of women can be used to subvert their original meaning and offer a critique of the patriarchal society we live in.
