Abstract
“Python to C++ Bridge Topic Videos:” The courses enhanced using grant funds are specifically COMSC 110 (Programming 2) and tangentially COMSC 101 (Programming 1). The funds enabled the creation of a series of videos that bridge the concepts learned using the Python programming language (in COMSC 101) to the same concepts to be presented using the C++ programming language (in COMSC 110). The bridge topic videos have been provided to students entering COMSC 110 after passing the pre-requisite course COMSC 101 since Spring 2024. Limited success (gauged during discussions with students enrolled in COMSC 110) was achieved during the initial semester the videos were made available. This was due to students not buying into the worth of watching the video tutorials prior to the start of their course. Greater success has been achieved in later semesters after requiring faculty assigned to COMSC 101 courses to make the videos available to their students. Feedback from COMSC 110 students which were introduced to the videos in their COMSC 101 courses shows that a higher percentage of students viewed and used the videos as a study guide. Those students that used the videos reported that they helped for both their COMSC 101 and COMSC 110 courses.
