Abstract
This paper will explore immersive exhibitions in the arts, providing a detailed explanation as to what distinguishes an immersive exhibition from a traditional arts event and why artists are increasingly choosing immersive art over a standard presentational model. It will then explore immersive exhibitions across different forms of art, dance, theatre, music, and multidisciplinary arts, highlighting real world examples that demonstrate the extent to which artists have adapted to the demand for change. Furthermore it will explain the psychological root of the inherent change, the audiences' need for engagement and participation as well as two key factors that have had a dramatic influence on the nature of change: social media and the experience economy.
