Abstract
This curriculum project was designed to foster engagement and discoveries of geometric transformation using the 5E instructional model, where the 5E requires students to engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate content. Each of the four lessons begins with an investigation into each transformation’s properties and ultimately leads to conclusions about side lengths, angle measures, and congruence. After exploring and explaining each transformation, students will be tasked with elaborating on their understanding to extend that knowledge to new contexts, which is seen in the “Extend Knowledge” section in the Math Practice. Lastly, the four exemplary lessons are all tied to the NYS Next Generation Mathematics 8th-grade standards. Included in the curriculum project is a warmup, an investigation, a lesson worksheet, an individual/partner practice worksheet, and an exit ticket for every lesson. Answer keys for all materials (including potential student responses) are provided in the appendix.
