Abstract
The fight for civil rights was a demanding and arduous process. Jews and Jewish organizations provided support to Blacks. Jews not only provided funding, but they participated in the sit-ins, marches, freedom rides and provided legal defense. The collaborative efforts around education and voting aided in the "upward lift" of Blacks. Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington built schools in the segregated south for Black children. Robert P. Moses and Allard Lowenstein organized the 1964 "Freedom Summer" to increase Black voter registration. The passage of the four major Civil Rights Acts would not have happened without the contribution of Jews to Blacks.
