Abstract
The history of material impacts contemporary meaning through global exchange, which can be seen within the art of papercutting in Latin America. At the center of this is artist Betsabeé Romero, who showcases this within her papel picado works, where she highlights the wealth of history within paper itself ("from Asia, to Spain, then to the rest of the world" ), and correlates it to the multifaceted Mexican identity.
